6 Tips to Look Your Best in Photos Postpartum From a Hamilton Newborn Photographer

As a Hamilton Newborn Photographer, I have had the privilege of photographing moms in the most vulnerable season of their lives, when most women want nothing more than to hide from a camera. In those early days post birth, your body doesn’t quite feel like your own, your energy is drained, your emotions are high, and your heart is so full. All of your focus is on keeping this new tiny human alive, and your life has been forever changed. You may think my only job as a Hamilton Newborn Photographer is to capture your new baby; however, one of my most important roles is to help postpartum mothers feel confident and beautiful in their bodies and create images of them they will love and treasure forever. I don’t just want you to look your best, but I want you to feel your best as well, because when you look back at a photo, you will always remember how you felt in that moment. Here are my 6 tips to look your best in photos postpartum as a Hamilton Newborn Photographer.

1. Embrace your new glow. You may not have time to shower or perfectly do your hair, but don’t let that make you feel any less beautiful. The glow a new mama has is unlike anything I have ever photographed. The way she lights up as she holds this tiny miracle she has created shines through in every image.

2. Find comfortable clothes. I know your first thought when choosing clothing for a professional photography session with a Hamilton Newborn Photographer or just for everyday photos on your iPhone may be to find something fashionable, but I am going to tell you that the best thing to do when choosing clothing for photos postpartum is to be comfortable. Remember, how you feel while getting your photo taken will show in your face and body language, so make sure you can move freely without feeling tight or restricted and are not too hot, as temperature is a big factor for new moms. I always recommend dresses for newborn sessions as they are both flattering, comfortable and easy to put together.

3. For professional photos with a Hamilton Newborn Photographer, consider treating yourself to professional hair and makeup done in your home. A professional will know exactly how to give you a natural look, and you can relax and have a moment of pampering before your session.

4. Pose and use lighting in a way that flatters your body. This is important information to keep in mind when selecting a Hamilton Newborn Photographer. Selecting the right photographer who is experienced and knows how to pose you well and get you in that perfect, dreamy light will flatter your body and make you look and feel amazing.

5. Focus on the connection between you and your new baby. Snuggles, kisses and cradles will draw attention away from you and your body and shed light on the incredible relationship between you and your baby.

6. This will be the hardest tip for postpartum moms to follow, but it is the most important. Don’t stress about how you look, just remember how important these photos will be to you in 5, 10, 20 years and get in front of the camera.
